How long for fosamax to clear the system?
Has Fosamax Left the Building?
In this case the building is your body and women have started asking: How long for Fosamax to clear the system, my system, my body?
How many times have you heard: “Your body is your temple?” You may or may not agree but you only have one body and hopefully do the best you can to care for it.
Women who take Fosamax to prevent osteoporosis and build bone density are prescribed Fosamax long term. Fosamax is not like a round of antibiotics that you take for 10 days. Fosamax is prescribed long term. It’s not unusual for a woman to be prescribed Fosamax for 5 years, 10 years, and more.
Only a maximum of about 0.6% of Fosamax dosage is actually used by your body and the rest is excreted through the kidneys. The part that is used by your body is incorporated into your bone matrix. That is, your bone cells grow around it and once covered by your bone it is no longer active. You can think of it as being similar to the grain of sand that is placed inside an oyster to cause the oyster to secrete nacre to make a cultured pearl. The half-life of this incorporated part is more than 10 years.
As to its harmful side effects, there is no conclusive evidence how long it takes for Fosamax to clear the system. However, the devastating side effects as a result of taking Fosamax such as esophagus cancer, atrial fibrillation, femur fracture, and jawbone death usually last longer than Fosamax.
