Toxic Levels of Zinc Found in Fixodent Denture Creams

High levels of zinc have been linked to zinc poisoning and neuropathy in denture users according to a recent article on WFAA.com. Fixodent, manufactured by Procter & Gamble, came under scrutiny four years ago when dozens of consumers complained of numbness and pain in their feet and legs.  Upon completion of medical testing, it was found that these patients were suffering from denture cream zinc poisoning.

While zinc is a naturally occurring element, high doses of it can deplete the body of copper which, in turn, causes neuropathy. Other symptoms of Fixodent zinc poisoning may include fatigue, tingling, hot or cold sensations and sensitivity to touch. Because symptoms can mimic those of other ailments, doctors can misdiagnose the condition for months before finding out what the true cause is.

At the time of the article’s release, Procter & Gamble still claim that Fixodent is safe for consumer use.

If you or a loved one has suffered severe injury or wrongful death due to zinc poisoning from Fixodent it’s important to contact a qualified Pennsylvania Fixodent attorney. Manufacturers have a responsibility to provide safe products for consumer use; however, when that responsibility is ignored and someone gets hurt, negligent parties must be held accountable.
