Anapol Schwartz Trial Attorney Joel Feldman, Esq. Speaks at PA Death Notification Seminar
Personal injury trial attorney and managing partner of Anapol Schwartz, Joel Feldman, Esq., spoke at a Death Notification Seminar on June 15, 2010 held at the Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) SE PA office in Conshohocken. Executive Director and Victim Advocate for MADD Pennsylvania, Rebecca Shaver, was the Presenter at the seminar.
The seminar was offered at no cost for those interested in learning more about helpful techniques for delivering news of a person’s death with compassion for the bereaved and with concern for the messenger in mind. The seminar aimed to provide individuals with a better understanding of what the needs are of someone who has recently lost a loved one in a tragic accident.
How a person is informed about a loved one’s passing can significantly influence that person’s emotional well-being not only in the present moment of being notified, but for years to come. As a personal injury attorney in Pennsylvania who has handled highly sensitive and intricate cases involving unsafe products, construction accidents, nursing home neglect, hazardous conditions on properties, auto and truck collisions, medical and dental malpractice, and alcohol-related accidents, Joel Feldman, Esq., spoke at the seminar to also explain the complex role of those notifying family members about a death.
The seminar content included the following:
- Who should notify
- Stress and the Notifier
- Apprehensions of the Notifier
- Attitude for Notification Delivery
- Trauma Recovery of Case Workers
- Personal Testimonies
- Coping Strategies
- Survivor Reactions Following Sudden Death
- Grief vs. Mourning
- Uniqueness of Sudden Death
- Viewing Photos
- Viewing the Body
- Factors Which Influence Survivors’ Stress
The seminar was made possible by a grant from the Anapol Schwartz Foundation, which supports research and programs enhancing public health and safety to make assistance accessible for victims and their families.
