DUI Arrests Up in Pennsylvania
Drunk driving is one of the biggest criminal issues we deal with as a society today. DUI collisions are responsible for thousands of deaths and injuries each year not only in Pennsylvania, but also nationwide.
The York Daily Record reports that Pennsylvania State Police made a record number of arrests for driving under the influence in 2009 – 16,900. Alcohol-related deaths in auto accidents, however, dropped by 14 percent from 2008, while the total number of Pennsylvania DUI collisions declined from 4,664 in 2008 to 4,625 in 2009.
Officials attribute this increase in DUI arrests to better enforcement and training for law enforcement officers including field sobriety training and advanced roadside impaired driving enforcement. This is a program that teaches law enforcement officers to recognize the signs of drug impairment.
Individuals who have been injured by an impaired driver have legal rights. A Berks County injury lawyer will strive not only to protect these victims’ rights, but also to ensure that victims and their families receive just compensation for the injuries, damages and losses they have suffered as a result of someone else’s negligence.
