Topamax, and it’s generic, topiramate, is used to treat epileptic seizures. It is also occasionally prescribed to treat migraines. The issue is not whether or not Topamax is effective in preventing seizures, the problem lies with the risks it poses to women of childbearing age. more »

A few months ago, the FDA warned that Transvaginal Mesh used to treat Pelvic Organ Prolapse and Stress Urinary Incontinence was riskier than other treatments for these conditions, and that doctors and patients should explore all other options before going through with this surgery. Since then, the FDA had been leaning towards making Transvaginal Mesh a high risk device. Yesterday, the FDA issued an order requiring makers of implantable mesh used to treat urinary incontinence in women to study the risks. more »

Texting is an extracurricular activity that should never be done while driving a car. Texting while driving is avoidable.
Auto crashes involving texting happens because of stupidity.
Due to advancements in technology and inexpensive cell phone contracts/cheap prepaid phones—texting while driving is on the rise and increases day by day. A study by Virginia Tech Driving Institute revealed that those who resort to texting while driving are 23 times more likely to have an auto crash. more »

The National Football League is one of the largest conglomerates in the world of Entertainment. What more proof do you need than the $3.5 million asking price per 30-second spot for a commercial during the Super Bowl. Being that popular an organization, the NFL is no stranger to lawsuits. Most of which, such as merchandising drug testing, and anti-trust issues, can be viewed as nuisance cases: easily be settled and ignored by fans. But when the opponents going against the much-loved organization are former idolized players, the fans sympathy may not lie with the League. more »

Actos is no stranger to FDA black box warnings. In 2007, a black box warning was issued saying that Actos may cause heart failure. Why anyone would want to take a drug that would cause a life threatening problem like heart failure? Why would you doctor even prescribe it? Are there not safer diabetes drugs in the pharmaceutical marketplace? more »

According to the fine print or prescribing information for Actos by Actos, here’s what it says: “Bladder cancer: Preclinical and clinical trial data, and results from an observational study suggest an increased risk of bladder cancer in pioglitazone (Actos) users. The observational data further suggest that the risk increases with duration of use. Do not use in patients with active bladder cancer.
